Baku Formula 1 circuit will be world's fastest street track.
Formula 1's newest grand prix in Baku looks likely to get a June 19th date next year as part of a tweaked 21-race 2016 schedule being considered by the sport's bosses.
The Baku Street Circuit is a Herman Tilke planned motor racing circuit in Baku, Azerbaijan to be constructed near Baku Boulevard, right by the sea front. It is scheduled to host the Baku European Grand Prix from 2016.
Azerbaijan, the land of fire Azerbaijan is the place where all roads meet, fully disproving the old saying that, "West is West and East is East, and ne'er the twain shall meet."
Situated on the Great Silk Road, Azerbaijan and its people defy simple definition – both the country and its people are neither totally Eastern, nor totally Western, but instead form a rich and unique blend of both cultures. Indeed, today Azerbaijan is a modern and liberal country, which still incorporates the traditions of many religions and nationalities into its open social structure.
In December 2013, Formula One President and CEO Bernie Ecclestone suggested that the race would be run in 2016 but later said that because the Korean Grand Prix organisers were in breach of contract, it would be moved to 2015. However, in July 2014 it was announced that the race's debut would be delayed until 2016.
The six kilometre, anti-clockwise layout of the circuit was designed by famous circuit architect Hermann Tilke. The circuit is planned to start adjacent to Azadliq Square, then loop around Government House before heading west to Maiden Tower. From there the track is planned to have a narrow uphill traversal and then circle the Old City before opening up onto a 2.2 km (1.4 mi) stretch along Neftchilar Avenue back to the start line.
